A test of will

We tackled Murph yesterday. If you are unfamiliar with this WOD it is as follows.
Murph
Run - 1 mile
Pull Ups - 100
Push Ups - 200
Air squats - 300
Run - 1 Mile
The WOD must begin and end with a continuous mile run. The pull ups, push ups & air squats may be partitioned anyway you choose.

The last time we tried Murph was March 17th. Back then we only had one pull up bar (remember the trapeze) and only a few people who could even do pull ups let alone 100. The tenacity and effort were impressive and inspiring. We only had a few finish under an hour and Van & I immediately looked at each other and thought we just killed or scared off all of our athletes. We couldn't have been more wrong. While people did take a few days off they were right back at it and wanted to do it again.

Murph isn't what I would consider and all the time WOD. It's a good one for sure. Very grueling and fun but the volume and length of it make it a little long to develop the intensity and power that yield the results we are looking for. Murph is a test not just of your muscle and their capacity to run, pull, push and squat but of your minds will. Your will to keep going when everything (except the coaches and other athletes) are telling you you cant. When you go there, when you test your will you strengthen it. And a person with a strong will is hard to stop regardless of the task.

"The key is not the will to win.... everybody has that. It is the will to prepare to win that is important" - Bobby Knight

I'm very pleased with the mental and physical performances. People stepped it up, they did more reps in the middle and cut time off their total. Look at your own performance and remember wanting faster times is good, setting a high standard is the mark of a successful person but demanding you do the work required to achieve those standards is what will make you successful. So remember what slowed you down, remember where you got stuck. Embrace the suck and tackle your weakness and the next time it comes up in a WOD hit it extra hard and if it doesn't come up for a while do it on your own. Do what it takes to get better. We are going to provide you with a rock solid program to do so and all the extra coaching you want. Take advantage of it and you'll notice big changes in your life both physically and mentally.

This weekend we will not be having class on Saturday. We will be going down to Logan for the Central East CrossFit Games. The games are quite an experience. A lot of inspiring performances both of physical and mental abilities. Hopefully we will see you there.
