"I got a lot of problems with you people!"
- Fitness & Bodybuilding Magazines - I've got serious problems with you people, probably too many to mention but here are a few. You give bad advise and state it's from experts or "studies". They may be fitness marketing experts or experts at writing articles or using steroids but they give bad advise especially considering most of their readers fitness. All your "do this and look like that" statements are total BS and can't be supported by any facts. I was recently looking through a copy of one and came across an article on kettlebells. The author had some alphabet soup after his name and talked about the benefits of kettlebells and went on to illustrate how to use them. From A-Z he was wrong. The pictures of the skinny bare chested model performing the exercises with his rubber coated toy showed poor and dangerous form. It was clear the model hasn't and doesn't do the exercises, the author doesn't know how to teach them and the editor of the magazine doesn't have a clue or care if they publish junk. But I'm sure they got a lot of money for the turbo extreme nitro super supplement advertisment on the other page.
- TV Infomercial Fitness Programs. P90X, Bowflex, Insanity, Ab rocket and any other program or cheap piece of equipment advertised on TV that promises hard core, extreme fitness and athletic conditioning all wrapped up neatly in a guaranteed time period. I'm not going to say these programs don't have some value (but not close to the 39.99/month they sell for) or work to a certain degree. Weight loss is pretty simple burn more calories than you consume and you will lose weight. So if your typical diet and activity plan consists of eating cheetos at 2 AM while watching informercials any improvement to your diet followed by getting up off the couch quicker will lead to weight loss. Being a trainer to movie stars does not mean your good or your "techniques" will work on regular people, give me a client with a million dollar paycheck contingent on some results and I'll show you a person that will work out everyday. Save some money and floor space and buy a good diet book. I recommend the following Enter the Zone by Barry Sears and The Paleo Diet by Loren Cordain. As far as burning calories give us a call I promise not to subject you to power rod technology or extreme anything just good hard work that will make you more fit.
This all brings me to tip #2 Stop looking for the perfect solution or magic bullet and do some work. The same type of work that made you good at anything will make you fit. Nothing fancy just the basic movements your body was built to do at various intensity levels. It's not easy and wont sell magazines, DVDs or new equipment but it works.
